Bonjour -loads of questions
Hello
Newbie here. About to embark on the NZ immigration thing!
Hope this forum will help with my never ending list of questions.
We are a UK based family desparate to leave for pastures green. We've never been to NZ before but we hear it's great. Although, that said, we are under no illusions that this is going to be easy! We are just prepared for the 'adventure' of it all.
My first questions I guess are: how likely is it to be picked from the pool without a job offer and without points for absolute skills shortage? - it seems pretty dismal if you don't have that. We think we might have points for a qualification in an area of skills shortage but only just make over 105 points even with that?
How likely is it to get a job before immigration so that we can get more points? Is this only for the very specialised and very in-demand occupations or can ordinary Jo Bloggs get a job to boost immigration points?
We might go over to NZ next year to check it out and see about getting some interviews.
Anyhoo! Will be chatting.

Hi,
If you can do it, I would strongly recomend a visit. Do your homework as to areas that you feel tick the right boxes and then do a recce. Some kiwi employers like to see a face and as mentioned on this site before, sometimes they are more interested in the type of person you are than your qaulifications.
Also, the image of New Zealand thats in your head may be very different than the reality. Yes , it is stunning and yes it is very layed back but as you may have read on here , its not for some people. I, however ,love it but can see where others may fall.
Good luck
Ash

Thanks Ash, some good advice.
Yes, we are planning a recce - just got to save up some cash and find a time that fits in with work/school etc.
Another question? If we go over on visitors visas, can we get in touch with recruitment companies in NZ and will they set up interviews for us or are they funny about us having residence first before looking for work.

I would guess that by the time you save up and arrange your recce that your application would be well under way wouldn`t it? I`m sure that the recruitment agents would explain the situation to potential employers.
Where are you thinking of coming to?

Don't know really - North island preferably, but will go anywhere dependant on job offer.
