Default bonds & rent

Hi all,

I've just been working out our finances (trying to anyway! ) and was just wondering when we rent a property long term, how much rent do you usually pay up front? Is it a week's rent? 2 weeks' rent? Also what's the average amount you need for a bond?

Cheers, Cheryl x

You're normally up for two weeks rent in advance, plus two weeks bond paid to the bond place, plus one week's rent for the estate agent. That's five weeks up front. If you look at the adverts on the internet for renting they usually tell you exactly what you have to pay up front.

A landlord can't ask for more than four weeks bond, nor can it ask for more than 2 weeks rent in advance. This publication could be very helpful for you.
[URL="http://www.dbh.govt.nz/pub-tenancy-overview"]. Landlord can't ask for more rent than the period it is due for. If the rent is paid weekly the landlord can only ask for a week in advance.

Read up on that little booklet. It is very helpful.

Hi please have a look at www.tpa.rog.nz
This give you all advice Tenants rules to Landlords rules
also www.dbh.govt.nz
The bond amount is as a norm 2 week rent + two week rent in advance + if its a real estate company you will also be required to pay to them one week letting fee (same as weekly rent) ....
Hope this may help
