What a complete waste of time that was Maz.
The US can pick and choose from hundreds perhaps thousands of skilled specialists...
new zealand cant!
Exactly, neither of them have said any of that. The bloggers have???

Actually what the US is more prone to do nowadays is outsource to SE Asian countries. I know this first-hand. I was a citizen in a skilled job, but I got made redundant and my job went to someone in India or Malaysia, and my company made no bones of telling the thousands and thousands of people they let go, too.
Yes, that's what the bloggers have said. I read their posting. Didn't you?

What was a waste of time? Your reading that, or me educating you? (You're welcome ) I went in through marriage into the US, but I still had to pass the medical. If I hadn't, I would NOT have been allowed in. And bloody rightly so! Like I said, it's a privilege to move countries, NOT a right!

I know how medicals work, I have passed one for the british army and one to become a nz resident.
Not just the US outsourcing to SE Asia, its been happening in the UK for the past decade or so...not sure what that has to do with this though?

You implied that Mr. Trezise and his wife were whining about it and they havent been. You supplied some quotes from other people whining about it so that makes half of your first post on this matter irrelevant.

Here: "Some quotes from the blog post. And yes I do realise that these are from the bloggers, not the people the article was about." from this post
Glad you know how medicals work, that's a good thing.
Outsourcing has a lot to do with it. If countries no longer need the skilled personnel because they're outsourcing, then it diminshes prospective immigrants' ways of getting in the country, n'est-ce pas?

ITA with NiseysOH. What people need to remember is that being allowed - yes, I said allowed - to emigrate to another country is an earned privilege, NOT a right! And if there are some things that people need to work on (that can be worked on) to be accepted by the authorities that make the decisions, then so be it, work on them. But don't sit around whining about how an entire country is against you. Empower yourself. Get off the sofa and get that weight off.
</rant>
Oh, and that was NOT directed at anyone on this thread or forum, but was a commentary on the blog.

so you know a little french then,
and you've assumed that each one of those 'bloggers' is overweight and needs to get off the sofa and whines about how an entire country is against them. They probably dont even know where nz is...
I dont think you read the article very well at all before started to rant about it...
If you want to reply thats fine but I've made my point which I cant help feeling you've missed...

I read the blog article posted. Please, let me know which myriad of articles and blogs you require people to read before you allow them to respond. Like I said, I went to pains to point out which parts I was responding to. Which you then ignored anyway.

This is a link to a story i found on the web......

I guess the comment about the overstretched health service is true though, NZ already already has a signifcant problem with diabetes and weight related illnesses so it makes sense not to overburden the system, just think of the sort of people they could let in.
Personally I think her husband should go back home, be there with his wife whilst she gets to a healthy weight and both should think themselves lucky for their narrow escape!

One things for certain 'Mrs G' looks to be an interesting sort........
'Homeschooled' her kids from start to aged 12 and 16...........?
No doubt her teaching at an 'alternative' school goes hand in hand with some 'interesting' views on people and the world......

People like "interesting" though and there's no point in having views if you can't air them - that's the beauty of blogs.
Did you see the comment about China not letting Americans adopt their children if they'd taken antidepressants? Guess that's too dangerous a combination, other nationals would presumably be ok?

Re: BMI Imigration story
It's not only NZ who have their health service stretched England has too. Did anyone read in the paper as to how much immigrants are costing the NHS here!! It's a shame that they don't take the attitudes of many countries and have guidelines/skills etc that are met and required then England wouldn't be in the mess it is!! We have both left good jobs to retrain in skills that NZ are short of (IT and Nursing) sold our home so we could support ourselves just so we had some chance of our application being accepted as it's been our dream for years. We have completely changed our lifestyle to healthy eating and hoping that our BMI will be within the required limitation. but can I ask if this is a recent requirement as I know of a family who have recently moved to NZ and a member of the family weighed in at over 20 stone, so how is that correct??

Re: BMI Imigration story
Imho England still has one of the best health services in the world.
I flew back recently to see a dentist and have some minor ops. All very efficient and 99% free.
Would have cost a small fortune here and I'm not sure I trust their work ethic either.
Its easy to knock old blighty but having lived down here for almost two years I have began to see what a great country Britain is.
As for BMI regarding immigration I'm not too sure?

Er.................... I did't think having a raised BMI was a reason for not getting a visa. I was under the belief that if you BMI was greater than 35 then you were required to have a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT). I know several over weight individuals who have got PR who are classed as "obese".
I think there is something mising from this story.
