Default Bloody UK virus.......

That virus seem terrible, apparently people are just dropping like flies. Patients are being told not to go to GP surgeries etc.....
My mate is due to fly on Wednesday for a 3 weeks visit here, I spoke to her on the phone yesterday, she sounds dreadful. She's so upset the Doc doesn't think she'll be fit to fly by then.
Life is a bitch!! We've planned this holiday for 1 year, crossing fingers & toes.

What is it a Norovirus? for most people they're usually over it in 48 hrs or so, lots of fluids and plenty of rest and she may be ok.

Rotaviruses used to cause the most gastro disease in kids.... this is the first time I've heard of noroviruses which hit adults hard too. Apparently they are on the rise world-wide and can be transmitted through uncooked foods (like salads, etc).

Well let's face it, salads are way too healthy anyway.

You are just as likely to catch it in NZ.

Norovirus has been around for ever and affects people in every country.

It also 'sweeps' across NZ from time to time:

It happens every year in the UK, usually in December & January.....at least since 2002...which is when I first became more interested in health.

I've had it....it was amazing. 2pm I was fine. 2.05 I felt odd. 2.15 I felt nearly dead due to violent D&V. I was on a hospital placement at the time, went into a disabled loo, threw off ALL my clothes and lay down on the cold floor. 2.45 felt MUCH better. 3.30 I ate yummy toast. I was VERY lucky.

Hope that your friend gets better really quickly.

Before anyone really panics.........it is here but it is really not as bad as the press have made it out to be.
OH has had it and you feel awful for a couple of days then back to normal. They mention not to go to GP as they cannot do anything to help. Plenty of water/boiled lemonade and your friend will be fine. You all know what its like over here........hype as usual!

It's also in the USA...my mate in California had it last week, as did the rest of her family.

Ditto. Kids have had it. My eldest very badly (recurrent 4 times in 2 1/2 weeks!), but no big deal in the big scheme of things. A 2 hour 'hell' period and then recovery.
