When I heard there was a large plume of dust coming out of Iceland I just thought Kerry Katona had sneezed.

And the very nice travel insurance people have said we have cover for days we have between now and then. Sweet. A relaxing day of TV, food and washing today then. Nice to be able to take it easy as we been flat out up to now!

The wife and kids just got airborne from Heathrow an hour before lockdown. They're currently in Hong Kong and will be flying to NZ, soon. Apparently, Hong Kong airport is very quiet and all Europe bound flights have been cancelled.

Re: blinkin volcano!
From the BBC:
"In Manchester, NATS lifted its restriction on flights for an hour to allow a plane to take off towards the Atlantic before 1300 BST.
The restriction was lifted due to the positioning of the ash cloud.
A Manchester Airport spokeswoman said: "Unfortunately the window of opportunity was so short notice that it hasn't allowed for any passengers to board."
In the middle of this we send empty planes into the air!!!

My 18 yr old son & his friend are due to fly out of Heathrow early on Sunday morning. Flights not actually confirmed as cancelled yet, so of course we've got fingers & toes tightly crossed.....but it's not looking good

Re: blinkin volcano!
This is the equivalent of a “Leaves on the Line” excuse for air travel, “Sorry, not flying today sir. The air isn’t the right consistency”. Also to check if a plane could fly was to fly a plane, which went fine so they concluded it was unsafe to fly .
