Anyone but Bennett. . . .or Collins. . . .or Bridges. . . or Smith, Adams or Brownlee or Joyce
I would give it to Nikki Kaye cos she looks like a dirty girl to me...!!

Fortunately, Ms Pitbull Bennett has ruled herself out as a contender, as has Nikki Kay.
So far confirmed in the running are Ms Nut Crusher Collin, Simon Bridges and
Amy Adams

Amy Adams is the best bet from those three. Once the Trump experiment is over, empathy will be back in favour. Collins and empathy seem polar opposites. Nikki Kaye has most potential but maybe wisely waiting in background for better timing.

Good so far, one candidate away from occupying the wastelands of opposition benches for back-to-back terms.

Given most of current MP will be retired before Aderns baby goes to school, is the next national mp a bit irrelevant?

Re: Blinglish is a gone burger
If Labour truly mess things up, National have a chance at the next election, however given the ridiculously short Parliamentary periods - 3 years, almost always the first term NZ governments get voted in again.
Difficult to see anyone immediately polling better than English. National's problem, given they were comfortably the largest party at the last election, was lack of support partners. In an MMP environment they're practically essential unless 3rd and 4th parties fail to reach the minimum threshold.
Also politics these days is very personality driven, after all Ardern's policies were no different than those of Little that had Labour hovering in the mid 20% in the polls 8 weeks before the election, neither had she any record of achievements.
None of the National candidates for leadership immediately attract, indeed Collins has the opposite effect, though probably the most likely to be able to knock holes in Jacinda Ardern.

Re: Blinglish is a gone burger
Have got beyond caring now
The nz electoral system seems to be based on the PC kindergarten premise that everyone is a winner and those who finish last are winners too and they deserve their time in the sunshine just as much as everyone else.
My neighbour Mark Patterson stood as an nz first candidate. He didn't win the local seat and yet he's now got a seat in parliament which is great for me as I now have 2 MP's representing me...its stupid

See Steven Joyce has now thrown his hat into the ring.
I suppose they'll go with the candidate China picks in the end.

Re: Blinglish is a gone burger
The National Party definitely need to invest in some better looking candidates; they all look like they have dodged a salad or two and appear to be at least ten years older than they actually are.
Steven Joyce is only 54 for heaven's sake :

Re: Blinglish is a gone burger
So Simon Bridges is their new leader.
I assume he's been asked about baby plans whilst he's in charge.
