The birds of New Zealand , bird calls & photos.
This is a thread for the birds of New Zealand , bird calls and photos.
Yes. NZ hosts birds that were not indigenous to this place but they are now part of NZ everyday sights and sounds so should also be included.
So. To start. Here are some of the bird calls as given by DOC

Talking of bird calls, all of the tui, blackbirds and starlings around us do that car alarm as their main call. You know the one that does all different tones = woop, woop, peow, peow, nee naw ne naw, etc.
And there's a tui that does a perfect imitation of a squeaking rotating clothes line.

I clicked this thread with mischievous thoughts but I'm not going to destroy a thread about Ornithology because it’s science!
Edit: I like the Pukeko, they always look a bit clumsy when they walk...like a robot in stilettos walking over a field of landmines.

Yes!
They only let you view it on Sundays for about 20 minutes so you only get a quick look. Worth the visit though and the park is nice. Not that many birds to see in mid winter though Cafe's okay too.
Not sure if this link will work:
