Default Best Supermarket in NZ?

New World is No. 1 with supermarket shoppers, according to a recent satisfaction survey.

Pak'n Save got the lowest rating, despite having the lowest prices out of the stores.

Not been to a New World yet, Pak n Save nice and cheap, and not too bad if you go at right time (i.e. not after school kick out time!) and Countdown in Bethlehem. Countdown nice but you feel it in the till reciept. Whats New World like pricewise?

pak n save makes this mild mannered kiwi princess want to cause grevious bodily harm to each and every person on the planet whenever i go into there. HATE HATE HATE.

Ok that's a bit of a lie. I have been to pak n save plenty of times during the quiet periods and it is fine. It is just Saturday mornings are hellish. Invented by the CIA to torture terrorists or something.

Also don't like the lack of selection but i do understand the (very successful) logic of getting the popular items cheap. And I can completely understand it if shopping for a family.

But you try finding gluten free stuff in there. yikes.

i like new world nice yummy deli bar. and the nice people at new world metro at wellington station recognise me Which says i go in there far to often for my coke and V in the morning

oh, new world is more expensive than pak n save.

Countdown used to be really grotty but i swear they have cleaned up their act a lot. Maybe just the one in Porirua i have noticed - Pak n Save came in and they improved immensely.

Woolworths is my local though simply due to location. I personally think woolworths is overpriced and understocked but they do have some good products when stocked. I prefer not to go there for wine though - they always ask for ID and i never have any.

Seriously, both those products are toxic. A cup of coffee and a cigarette would probably cause your body less damage.

Hardly...not sure how you'd categorise it. I seem to browse in there and never buy anything except the occasional bit of cheese.
New World is my favourite but I ring the changes with Woolworths as well. Both of these automatically pack your stuff for you.

New World at Thorndon in Welly, love it, spend far too much, but its the nicest supermarket experience I've had here yet, always someone else to pack your bag from the person scanning your stuff, all staff seem friendly, place is clean and great selection of foodstuffs...

Seriously One cup of Coffee a day Doesn't Damage your body!

I don't drink more than a caffeine based drink a day anyway....and don't smoke cigarettes, either

People who consume large amounts of fizzy or sugary drinks are at higher risk of contracting gout and developing pancreatic & gullet cancer

I expect this subject will be debated for weeks! We all have our favourites.

I shop mainly in Pac n Slave.... sometimes (like today) I go into Woolworths, I get different baking ingredients from there, they also sell better icepops and some new Watties babyfood sauces I cant get in PnS. But PnS is cheaper and plenty of choice in the one at Botany.

I went into Countdown in Botany the other day....havnt been in there for months.... I wont be going in there again for months.... it was pretty useless, the selection was crap, I hardly got anything I wanted that was on my shopping list.... big thumbs down for Countdown from me!

WOOLWORTHS! Why? There's two local supermarkets in our town and Woolworths is well stocked, always has specials on, is clean, friendly and the staff smile and are genuinely interested in helping their customers. It is waaaay cheaper than New World, the other local supermarket and often beats their special prices. And the butchery dept has better trimmed meats which also seem to be cut better. It has a good deli counter and great selection of wines.

And I thought this even before I started working there

I laughingly refer to it as 'third world' but in my opinion New World is the best going. Some are better than others - the one on Te Rapa Straight in Hamilton was far, far better than any other branch I have been in.
Gets my vote!

To be honest I was being sarcastic. Moore Wilson is my neighbour and if his kids have one more bloody all-night party then I'll swing, so help me....

New World for the basics, Kirkcaldie and Staines for the extras.

I would have to say New World, although I'm not too keen on the new one at Albany. Personally, I think the small one in Milford is very good as they have things you cannot get in the bigger ones, and the staff are very friendly.
