Re: Best state secondary
Hi AJ,
I've been looking at this as we might end up anywhere in NZ and the local school could be an influencing factor on where we settle. If you have a place in mind then check http://www.minedu.govt.nz/ and there's a 'find a school' link in the quick links on the rhs of the screen. From there you can select a school in the area/town you're interested in and get some basic data such as the % of the leavers who go to university or leave with other qualifications.
The individual schools pages also have links to the ERO inspection reports which contain more information on performance, usually compared to an average or expected level, and recommendations for improvements and the date of the next inspection. I've assumed that lots of recommendations for improvement and yearly inspections are not good. You might also be able to find information on the school roll numbers and work out if the locals think it's becoming a good idea to send their children there.

Fancy Christchurch from what I've read up on (coming out for a visit in couple of months) but schooling will be the prime factor in deciding which region. Any tips on best locations for Brit Expats and good schools etc welcome
