Bring everything you possibly can. White goods here are expensive as is most furniture.

We used The Removal Group (a broker) who used F&N Worldwide to come and do the actual packing and loading of the container. We had quotes from PSS, Anglo Pacific, Crown etc. The Removal Group were cheapest for a 20' at 3,150 GBP. Insurance we did separately throuh Letton Percival. To be honest they are all much of a muchness. All will professionally pack, all will arrange delivery this end - through their agents this end. Crown has its own office this end so you're only dealing with one company, but then Crown this end seem to deal with the other smaller removal companies as we had to contact Crown to get through to Grace Removals who did the delivery for us this end?

Our container took 6 weeks to get here and all was delivered safe and sound. No breakages.

And I think all removal companies sort your customs paperwork and deal with MAF for you this end, and all will deliver within a 30km radius without charge from port of arrival and all can arrange storage this end if required.

There is a list of stuff you cannot bring in your container, although this can vary greatly depending on how flexible your packers are with turning blind eyes, probably on a portionate rate to the amount of tea and biscuits they receive
Hope this helps. Good luck, Mandie xx

Hi there,
karma for the job and see you in December .
Check the 'really useful thread' for removals The prices may be slightly dated but there was some good info on removal companies in there. We used Robinsons and had very little to complain about
Take everything!

We've just had PSS in to pack our stuff and must say they were brilliant. Can't say what they are going to do once it gets on the boat but in the house was great, they also quoted us £2.5k for a shared container or £3k for our own 20ft one. SO price wise they are good as well.

Bring every last thing with you that you can look at now and say 'yes we'll use that or yes that'll be useful'.

Lots of things you own now will proportionately be more expensive to buy again once you get here if like most your NZ wage is less than your equivalent UK one but if you don't have much i guess its moving cost versus buying here cost. For us we were bring a 40ft high cube so everything went. We were told by a few people to sell things before we left which we did with stuff we didn't want or wouldn't use but very happy we're bringing white goods and other kitchen and household stuff with us.

We're currently renting a furnished home and the 'hoover' hardly hoovers, the washing machine (a top loader) is crap and the dishwasher basically is only good for heating the plates up and drying them before they get put away

While its great here in many many ways and 1 month in we're loving it you will find plenty of things like household items are in real terms more expensive which adds to the 'bring it with you' arguement.

Just by way of an example a Dyson carpet cleaner in the UK at £249 is $700 here for the exact same model which fits with the exchange rate ok but when compared to your NZ earnings as a multiple of your UK salary it starts to look much more expensive.

So true......

If we'd listened to some of the companies who quoted we'd have left thousands of pounds worth of stuff behind.....
