Question Best Price Carpet NZ

Hi, could anyone tell us where the best price carpet can be bought in NZ. Some of the prices I've seen are ridiculous, We've looked at Carpet Court(expensive) and a cheaper supplier but they only do dark brown. Thanks.

We recently had Carpet Court visit to give us a quote for carpet in the living room and vinyl (fake wood) planks for our kitchen. Their quote to do a medium-sized living room and smallish kitchen floor with carpet and vinyl tiles was just short of $6000 That was with us removing the furniture and we have already pulled the yukky old carpet up and disposed of that too...This price did include underlay and fitting.

We are waiting for Carpet Mill to visit for the next quote. Have heard they are much better (i.e. cheaper!) priced.

A floor layer has quoted us between $25 - $30 per square metre to lay the vinyl planking. This is the 'going rate' apparently.

We love New Zealand. However, carpet/flooring costs do seem incredibly expensive...Call me a whingeing Pom if you want.

If you find anywhere else please let me know. We need flooring but we also need to eat!

Mrs C

p.s. Fortunately Spotlight had a fantastically ridiculous sale on this week so we now have a rug on the floor besides our sofa. That was $105 down from $329. Like so many, we buy EVERYTHING in the sales. If only we could find a fitted carpet sale our problems would be over

Thanks for the reply. It really is very expensive for carpet/flooring here. We just looked at carpet mill so we might try them.

Thankfully I've got a mate that runs a flooring company with his dad. They get carpet at $70 per metre (not sqm, it's 1 metre of a roll) and is getting me some at cost.

Yet another basic thing kiwi's are charged extortionate prices for and they seem to just accept it.

NZ is fast becoming too exxy to live in ,we are back in UK now and are finding everything cheaper as far as the cost of living goes ,only petrol seems dearer but food way cheaper and my rates also and other utility bills ,things like carpets ,paint and wallpaper are far cheaper here ,we found that if your a pommie thwere they think your rich and double a lot of bills trying it on

Quick update...we had Carpet Mill out and their quote was just over $3000 which is almost half what Carpet Court quoted us.

You can guess which quote we are going with

Having seen the price of carpet a few months ago, our new place is now a shoe free zone. Thanks for the heads up on carpet mill.

I've just had a quote of $5000 to $7000 just to do the prep work and prime around the doors and windows
