Best place to swim with Dolphins around CHCH
 

Me again folks,

Am planning like there's no tomorrow (plus it's taking my mind off things :D)

We want to go swim with Dolphins while in CHCH... Where's best?
Akaroa (being french, I hear we must go!) or Kaikoura or somewhere else??

Tips please...

Definately kaikoura I am going back for a 2nd swin in February,

They are really good as they follow the dolphins around the area so you are on and off the boat a little bit but you get up real close to them one little girl last time I went was put in the water right above them. It is also great for non swimmers the dolphins are soooo active.

I do remember reading somewhere that Kaikoura is the best place to swim with wild dolphins.

Kaikoura if you want a dead cert to swim. We have done this.

Akaroa is a lovely place but is subject to weather so you may luck out as we did a couple of years ago.

Another great place would be French Pass in the Marlborough Sounds. March is best.

Am taking my cousin n her bf, the 4 of us are going to CHCH on NY Eve!

So Kaikoura it seems on Jan 2nd!!!

Last time we were down in Kaikoura we went on a fishing charter and he stopped to let everybody swim with dolphins ...... double whammy ....

Hey there,

I took my two eldest kids over to Akaroa in 2007 when they visited. We booked a couple of days before, but had a great swim with the dolphins.

Also there is a lot going on in Akaroa over the New Year.

When I went to Kaikoura a few years ago, all the tours were booked up but they had a waitlist just in case people didn't turn up. I had to be there at 5am to be ready as a replacement and luckily my chance came. Amazing experience and one which I will do again (with more forward planning and advanced booking).

Just seen this , but can confirm that you will love it. Kaiks in Jan is awesome, and you will have the best time.

Last 2 times we went up there we stood by the road watching HUGE pods of dolphins - there must have been several hunderd - all jumping and frollicking only 200 yards from shore.

Which place is Kaiks Wiz please?

We have a visitor here in January and want him to have the best time. Also I want to see dolphins again.

Aww will miss you Matewx, I'll be in Kaikoura for Christmas staying with Mr Sue's family but will be out of the country when you're in Chch:sneaky::lol:

Hope to see dolphins at Christmas!!! Kaikoura is a stunningly pretty little town.
