Best inner city suburbs please - Auckland
As the title says! If I put it out there it won't happen but if it does and the offer is too good to refuse where shall we live? Rent or buy? Money not too much an issue but not a never ending purse? Two adults and two yapping bitsa dogs!!

Re: Best inner city suburbs please
Inner city Auckland. Hmmm, you've got Remuera or Epsom, St Heliers. All of which will cost millions to buy and 1,000s to rent.
Spread out a bit to Sandringham, Balmoral, Mt Eden. All of which will cost millions to buy, and 1,000s to rent.
Try Mt Roskill or Blockhouse Bay, Lynfield, Hillsborough. Rent might be a bit cheaper. Will still cost millions to buy though.
All the best.

Re: Best inner city suburbs please
All of the inner city Auckland suburbs are very nice (and housing is expensive in all of them). Remuera/Epsom/Parnell are a bit more staid/conservative from what I know.
Ponsonby and Grey Lynn attract some more creative/artistic types. Ponsonby Road has lots of cafes, shops and bars so a bit of nightlife on the weekend (but not in a drunken teens sort of way, more a 20-30somethings drinking in nice bars kind of way). St Mary's Bay, Herne Bay and Freeman's Bay all border Ponsonby and are within a few minutes walk to it.
Slightly further out from Ponsonby are Westmere and Pt Chevalier which are also nice though with fewer local shops. Pt Chev has a beach.
To the east, St Heliers, Mission Bay and Kohimarama all have good beaches and cafes, bars, cinema, etc etc
Mt Eden also a nice area.

Ponsonby is the best, lots of cafes, cool drinking holes etc, is perfect for a couple with no kids, walking distance from the CBD, or if are beach people mission bay or kohimarama is the best.

Ponsonby is a horrible area inhabited by shallow pretentious people.

Glendowie is a nice place. Our rent isn't that bad compared to some places.
