Beijing Anyone.

We are flying back to the UK next Wed, first ever trip back since arriving here 3yrs ago.

We are flying via Beijing and was wondering if anyone had any views or advice regarding Beijing airport. We have a 3hr stopover there and dont seem to find much on the net regarding the quality of lounges there, any advice appreciated.

We went via Beijing in 2003 on our way to Aus. We had a 5 hour stop over but didnt bother with the departure lounge, we just got some currency from the cash machine, got in a taxi and got it to take us to Tiannaman square(about 20 minute drive). We had a good look around then found a bar where we had a couple of beers and some roast duck. Then it was a taxi back to the airport and back on the plane. Just a thought but we didnt fancy the long wait in the departure lounge.

Beijing airport is pretty ok, but with only 3 hours to your connection you'll not have enough time to leave the airport and get back in.

There is plenty of little shops and a cafe there so you can relax and chill out, the duty free isn't that cheap so wouldn't worry....

You'll need RMB money, don't use the money exchange counter, withdraw money with a card from the cash machine and you'll save on the exchange rate.. hope that helps..

I have been there a number of times over the last 8 years and although it is a very modern airport it is in my opinion not that wonderful. Adequate but not a lot happening. It also depends what time you are there as it seems to shut up shop around 10 pm and very little happening after that. There is food, seating and drink but surprisingly not a lot else!
