Aye? Eh? Ay? Ey?

Aye? Eh? Ay? Ey?
Go on then - hands up all those expats in NZ who now finish many sentences with 'Aye' said with a questioning inflection?
Stuff like 'Shocking day today, ay?' or 'About time for a beer, ay?'.
Much as I hate it, I find myself doing it more and more. T does it all the time, even my sis in law does it all the time (and she's only been here 2 and a bit months!).
Are we being assimilated? If so, should we be afraid?!

Yep.
Guilty as charged. We do. as a family, try to humiliate eachother when we are caught saying it. I was caught saying "sweet as" the other day. It just slipped out eh.

I suspect i use it more than i realise. I would say that i don't use it a lot but i think it sneaks in there in casual speech.
Not surprising. Most verbal things like that are pretty easy to pick up. A lot of places have the equivalent of "yes" and "no" at the end of a sentence and apparently it is quite common for people to start saying it. Gordon Ramsay does it all the time. He ends every second sentence on Kitchen Nightmares with 'yes'.

Ash - man, I'm with you. Stick a 'bro' on the end next time and you'll be a true Kiwi, eh?

Yis, I try my hardest, eh, to stop saying these things, but it's just like, no worries mate. It's all good, eh?

My little lad says Aye too.... I say it after him and he says "dont copy me" in a stroppy voice! Thats the only thing hes picked up so far. Sometimes his kindy teachers dont understand his English accent.

Managed to stay away from Aye, but have a serious case of Eh which I hope is not terminal, even if it is contagious.
Awsome and absolutely are the one I come across the most and find myself using more and more.

still here in north cumbria, but we also have lots of eh's? at the end of sentences, with the same blinking inflexion... i tend to use 'no worries' a lot anyway, and i work with someone who always uses cool beans, cool fruits, cool bananas, and she's from wales!
don't hold out much hope for resisting the slide into kiwism when we (eventually) get there
for a few years now our shopping list has started with 6 pints of trum!!

Awesome! I say it all the time - how awesomely awesome.
AWESOME.
Say it enough times, it sounds ridiculous. It is ridiculous. The grand canyon is awesome. Man's first steps on the moon? Awesome.
Me hitting budget at work? Not awesome - it's my job.
You wouldn't think it though with the number of 'Awesome's I get off colleagues. Maybe it's cos I rarely hit budget ay?
