Default Awesome Kiwi Cusine

Seafood....Love it, fresh fish from the local fishmonger who operate their own boat. Get to buy fish caught locally that was swimming around the previous day. Either that or go get it ourselves.

My favorite fish, John Dory

Scallops!!!

This is a 'must eat' , especially when we have visitors. A drive over to Havelock sets the mood.

Oh the crayfish from the stand north of Kaikoura around where the Oahu seals are. Delicious!

My local chippy's elephant fish. Cooked to perfection, very tasty and a very very goood price. It's not quite the red cod but much more affordable on my finances

Fish caught locally by my friend who's partner has a boat - fresh and delicious.

Snapper, skin, on purchased from our local fishmonger. Whole snapper purchased from PNS and gutted/filleted by me.

Scollops - delicious. Hoki - delicious.

Lamb chops are yummy - first barbeque on Labour weekend ?

Roast pork, beef, chicken and lamb are delicious too. Just like Britain, I eat what I like and don't bother with what I don't like.

I really like Afghan cookies, banana cake, and scones of all kinds. I also like the NZ version of fish and chips. Kumara chips and wedges deserve a mention too.

Lamb

Ginger crunch OMG

Mussels

Crayfish

Cheese rolls

Fish and chips, pineapple rings, hot dogs, snapper, sole

Steak we have had thus far has been amazing!

Not strictly kiwi but there are a lot of excellent Japanese restaurants here. Not a great fan of raw fish sushi but love bento and teppanyaki.

Was given about half of kilo of fresh whitebait.

Made four fritters of approx 125g of white bait and one egg.

It was amazing, not eggy at all. Washed down with a decent savvy, perfect!

Had my first experience of a hangi last time I visited. It was easily the best meal I'd had in a long time. This is not meant to reflect my poor cooking prowess!

Think they can be a bit hit or miss, depending on a bunch of factors. The ones I've enjoyed haven't necessarily been about the food, but a bit more about the ceremony and the people. The time and the place.

I note, with some interest, that there seems to be no love given in this thread towards the quintessential Kiwi baked thingy, on a higher plane than the Lamington...

...the Custard Squareâ„¢.

I make custard tarts for Mr BEVS.

Oddly Pavlova got mentioned in the 'weird nz food' thread but did not make it into here. It should be in here, not that I eat it .

I've also never eaten a Lamington although am told they are very good. Mind you that might be more Australian.
