Automotive employment NZ agency
Hi all. My husband is a diesel mechanic in the uk and we are
Considering moving to auckland.
We came across a recruitment agency called automotive employment NZ, who seem very helpful. Does anyone have experience of dealing with these guys?
Also, can anyone give any insight into working patterns/ shifts that a typical diesel/ bus mechanic could expect?
Thanks

Hi my husband is also a diesel mechanic and we are hopefully moving across to new zealand by next March. We spoke with pat at automotive employment about 6 months ago and he was really nice and helpful too. We hav to get back in touch with him nearer the time for us heading over.

Ok that's good to know. Have you found out much about the working patterns? Ideally he would like to work daytime only
Shifts to give us out evenings together.
Thanks and all the best for the big move

Yep mostly day time hours and seemed to be plenty work going in that field. It's worth contacting them as they were really helpful. We hoping to go to the north shore but also thinking about new plymouth area.

Good luck with the move, the one thing NZ is short of (at least around Auckland) are good automotive techs. One thing to be aware of, though, is the age of the stock he'll be looking after. Don't expect many new vehicles, there aren't any. Average age is 10 years plus.......

Depends where they are based but an automotive tech (cars will earn between $54000 to $65000, depending on whether its a dealership or independent. A diesel tech, working on heavies and buses will earn from $55000 up to $80000 (with shift allowance and bonus). I managed to get off the spanners and now have a managers job, earning more than I did in the UK. If you're looking for truck and bus garages, South Auckland or Tauranga could be the best places to look (airport and port).
Wages listed above are what I have experienced in Auckland.
