Auckland v. Wellington for IT Roles

I am coming on a fact-finding trip/holiday in October.

My work skills are IT related (C#.Net programming among others) and I have been doing research on SEEK etc.

I have found that I can find suitable employment in both Auckland and Wellington (as well as other places such as BOP) but research also shows that house prices are better in Wellington.

Is 'Welly' a nice little city to get in and out of when commuting?

Any responses would be good.

Hi Mate,

For IT jobs Welly is much better and pay much better. Gov jobs and .net is in high demand. As Auckland has more IT professionals, kiwi employers are always looking for the cheaper professionals. In terms commute, no comparison, the worst you can get in Welly is 20-25 minutes commute. Auckland depends where you are and where you work , but you can get up to 50 min - 1 hour.
Good luck mate, whatever your decision.

Wellington is a relatively easy commute, I live 30km's out and with bus, train and walking, it take about an hour door to door... And it's relatively hassle free...

House prices in Auckland have rocketed beyond belief, a chain reaction of this is rentals prices also increasing.

IT jobs certainly a plenty in Auckland and Wellington. You will find that alot of the companies / organisations you contact will have an office in both locations.

If I could turn back the clock I would have chosen Wellington. I also think that had this been the case, we probably wouldn't be strongly considering a move back to the UK in the not too distant future.

I'd say there are more jobs in Auckland, but the pay vs cost of living situation seems far better in WLG than Auckland.
