Re: Auckland is a dump!
Wellington has a heart and a soul, something i feel that is lacking in Auckland, just my personal opinion. BUT OMG Welly is windy and not so good on the weather front, but i would take Welly over Auckland any day.

It says a lot I feel that we can sit back and call Auckland a dump, I love Auckland it is so diverse and there are some great people there. In some places you can feel very isolated where as in Auckland you feel more connected. I would live in Auckland over a lot of places, I would live anywhere in NZ no worries. |

I second that Wellington is great although my first choice would be to stay here I would not mind living in Auckland one bit.

Auckland isn't too bad to be honest, however there is a lack of European feelings, hence I prefer Welly to Auckland (personally). but hey, is there any place, does not have its fair share of problems? like Wellington has rather a lot of wind. lol:) You seems to be a cool fellow, if you could live anywhere without too much prejudice. |
Re: Auckland is a dump!
Quite honestly I don't know Auckland very well, passed through a few times, stayed there for 3 or 4 days when we did our recce in 2007, and I thought it was OK. Never had a burning desire to live there, which was just as well because our job offer was for Rotorua, not Auckland. But I'm not sure that I'd have a problem living there, although the house prices deter me a bit.
But I love Rotorua....and you should hear the rude remarks people make about my home town, largely concentrating on the smell , of course. So I must be very strange, as this is my little paradise. Each to their own I say  |

I have never heard Aucklanders put on fake UK accents. Why? Why should you travel to Auckland? - because it's different. But do so with an open mind and enjoy what it has to offer. Most parts of the world have good and bad parts but in NZ WE HAVE LESS PEOPLE and thats the big plus for me. |

Same here, a right hybridised accent I have, being brought up by Northern parents in the Sarf East and then married to a Cockney geezer, mixed in with five years of inevitable Kiwi-isation of vowels. The cockney geezer sounds more and more like a Kiwi with every passing day. People are often surprised to hear that I am actually English!!

Find it interesting how accents change. Must be funny when your kids start sounding like little Kiwis. OH Grandma lived in NZ for over fourty years and she sounded more British than the queen  Dewb |
