And the dog thing? You'll find that there's an amazing amount of restrictions on where you can and cannot exercise your dog freely off leash here. The eastern beaches in particular as you have to remain on the seaward side of the high tide mark in the winter... tough if the high tide means you can't walk. They're not allowed on the grassed areas and Long Bay in particular, you can only access the beach at one end with a dog because you're not allowed to cross the grass. And even then, your dog must be "under control at all times". If you cannot demonstrate your dog answering a recall immediately, you'll get fined. If you don't have a poo bag on you (even if you've just used yours and disposed of it in a bin), you'll get fined too. It's really, really hard to find places to exercise a dog here, so when there's a beach that does allow it, it's not hard to see why there's so many there.
