Argh ! Pesky sandflies.
Argh ! It's sandfly time again . I've already gained half a dozen bites in places I did not know I had & that was when working in the garden.
Never have gained any sort of immunity to the itch and pain they cause, so it's stock up on Sooze & blast myself in insect repellant which I do loathe having to do.

I've found that using Trilogy Rosehip Oil on bites stops them itching far better & for longer than Soov or anything else. Also seemed to make them go away more quickly too, though that maybe because I didn't scratch them as much!

I rub the inside of a banana skin on my bites,
works straight away for me.

I copped a fair few bites out at Little River on the Banks Peninsula last week - little blighters wouldn't let me sit and eat without having a meal themselves.

Vitamin B intake is supposed to help keep them away. Once bitten, tea tree oil helps relieve and so does good old malt vinegar if you don't mind smelling like a chippie.

P.S.
The late, great Spike Milligan told the story of contracting sandfly fever during his time in the desert in WW2.
He claimed he contracted it by getting sand in his fly.

Used the Aussie Walkabout liquid repellant that contains citronella and it works for mozzies and damn midges/sandflies.
Get it most early and late summer at the football ground.
Can't beat the itch tho

Is a sandfly like a super-mosquito then? Mozzies love me. Ignore everyone else and have a good old go at me. We got the stripey ones around here. Un-ace.

My best itch cure once bitten is hair drier on hot as you can stand. If you don't have one available cos you're inthe bush and you think you might go insane with the itch (sole of foot ones get me) then the abrasive half of teva velcro rubbed over it till bleeding is also a good cure

Ouch, they are painful. Don't notice at first and then the itch starts and won't stop. I sometimes come up with a bruise where the lump/bite is Haven't been munched yet though

Hi All,
Having been here 3 months now we have also had the attack of the Sand flies, we were recommended by the locals to use a mixture of detol and baby oil instead of the usual sprays because of the chemicals involved, having used this for a week now on our tramps to the beach and forest we find it works 100% as long as it is not washed off. only downside is you do tend to smell of detol if up close, but we think it's worth it.
