Anzac Day today.

Anzac Day today.
For those of you not yet in NZ I thought you may like to know that NZ has a national holiday on this day each year for Anzac Day.
As I sit and type this, our village is about to commence it's own commemoration.

Two services here in Kerikeri, one at dawn (5.45am) and another later in RSA. Town all quiet until 1pm when most shops open again.
On an aside I couldn't find anywhere selling poppies

The local RSA should have been out and about.

Ah. I guess with so few shops open it could prove hard. Next year I'll try a few days earlier.

Re: Anzac Day today.
Poppys are usually sold the week prior to ANZAC day, traditionally outside supermarkets etc. Usually by our wonderful senior citizens, who do a great job. But I agree, there has been a dearth of poppy sellers this year. I know there have been a couple of incidents in the past week of elderly poppy sellers being robbed by youngsters. Karma. But we've been from Auck to Napier and back this week and haven't seen any poppy sellers. Bad timing on our part perhaps.

I think there may have been a little protest as the poppies may not still be made here. Please do not quote me on that.
Still, do we need a poppy to donate?
HERE
I always wear my UK poppy ( it is a bit curly around the edges) as that is comfortable for me given where I come from and who in my family died in the wars ( not all UK) but I always give to the local RSA.
