Kiwi bank seem to offer the best rates and accounts, but the disadvantage is their branches are the NZ Post Offices, so you're queueing with everyone posting parcels, paying vehicle licenses etc.
I'm considering kiwi bank's online account. I'm not sure I'll be needing branches transactions that often. Their term deposits rates look good too.

Make sure and read the fine print regarding fees at kiwibank, doing some things can be expensive .

Some companies/organisations here get favourable t&cs with certain banks. The org that I work for gets free banking and reduced mortgage rates. Check with your HR dept before you sign up for a particular bank.

Can you be more specific? They look fine to me, for my needs.

They used to charge some silly amount for withdrawing money from an ATM, it’s been a while since I last checked them though.

Westpac. We opened the account up in the UK before we left. We have an online account which is free apart from the yearly $10 fee for our card. Plus if we want to put a cheque in it cost us $6. Also you can't go overdrawn at the cash point, no hidden bank charges. Good luck.
But ASB are very good too.
