The job I applied for was advertised via a UK professional body and so it was like applying for any other job tbh.

I am receiving contracts this week and will get the contact details of someone in HR.

I still have a long way to go... EOI goes i a few days, will get pulled out and we'll be ready for our ITA. We have sent off for Police reports, have medicals booked for two weeks time... just worrying about passing Medicals now (should be fine... my daughter has a small hernia but can't see that hindering us) and then the impending container/motorcycle issues

I've mentioned the relocation package to my agency and am waiting a reply, I'll let you know what they say or I really will have to reconsider my choice of agency!

Agency as in they are assisting Laura get onto the nursing register and finding a job as soon as she is registered.

laura. Do u mean immigration agency or recruitment agency? If recruitment agency they can't negotiate relocation packs as far as I'm aware (not that I know loads) has to be with the future employer.

I wouldn't recommend an immigration agency if u have a good recruitment agent. Recruitment agents should be free of charge as they're paid by the health board to find employees

when you're able pm n I'll give the name and details of who I used. Or u can apply direct to the health board and their hr team can guide uthrough immigration

I'm not going through any immigration agency whatsoever... just filling in forms as necessary, asking advice on here and when I get in touch with HR rep (any time now, contract on way) will speak to her about it.

We're not using immigration agents, Laura has a free recruitment agent (we don't pay any fees for their help), they just recruit nurses. This is from their site:

My advice.... do it yourself.

As for registering with Nursing Council, she can very easily do it by herself. There is nothing the agency can do other than forward her the papers to fill in !!!

The hospital will pay a huge fee to the recruitment agency, and may not offer any re-location package to you due to the agency fee.

Start looking for a job on the DHB websites and apply direct to their HR depts. January isn't a great time to look, as all the Dec 2010 new graduate nurses will job hunting too.

I work for ADHB have been with them 7mths now. I applied direct and had a telephone interview - unfortunately no relocation package although that could be because we were already due to fly out!. Auckland is very expensive compared to the rest of NZ and there is no additional allowance. Just found out that my salary scale ( clinical nurse specialist) is paid $12,000 less than the same position at Nth Shore!!!. Obviously keeping an eye out for vacancies at that hospital!! Have found reading the entries on here very useful. i am looking to move to Auckland, am a UK mental health nurse and have noticed that there is the possibility of both a relocation allowance and flight being paid, could anybody give me more information on how or who they negotiated this with please, would be very great-full as anything extra help.

I moved to Auckland in January and was provided with a flight for myself and partner as well as two weeks living allowance at a hotel. I thought this was really good at the time but have since heard that it is possible to request assistance with shipping. They are desperate for UK nurses to work here and if you're a good negotiator you should try to make the most of the package deal!

I was offered shipping expenses, flight for me, wife and daughter plus 6 weeks accommodation... this wasn't negociated but was offered.

I guess you can negociate with HR?!

Thank you so much for your replies....... But just a bit more detail needed.. Did you guys go through an agency and have your job organised for you or did you apply directly to the district health boards and when the district health boards are aware that your migrating is there an expectation from them that we will negotiate additional stuff or do they initally offer stuff and we ask for more??
Do they think that we are a bit cheeky or is it expected?
Soooo many questions quys but answers are really appreciated.

Hi, you may have seen our updates before.

Laura starts her job on the 27th June. Originally she used Geneva Health, however they really weren't very good in our opinion - little effort was made in actually finding Laura a job. To further elaborate... we said we aimed to be in NZ for May 1st and we agreed to work toward that time line.

Come mid-April they still hadn't started looking for a job for Laura!!! At this point we decided to put matters into our own hands as we had given notice on our rental and everything. Laura contacted the District Healthboards directly, managed to get an interview and she did a sterling job and was shortly offered a job (the next day).

In terms of relocation packages, we were clearly told that due to the budget cuts (austerity drive) in New Zealand - all relocation packages for nurses in NZ will either be severely reduced or completely removed. Of course, this may not be entirely true, but in our opinion - don't expect anything! We only asked for some help on shipping as well, not flights or accommodation.

We've now been here 8 days... may have sorted a property today, which is great. For your information, traffic in and around Auckland really is awful in the mornings! Feels like being back on the M25... at rush hour.
