Moving in tomorrow and the rental agency suggested using:
Fast Connect- A Free Connection Service

seemingly they hunt out the best power, internet etc providers in your area for free.... sounds too good to be true. All we need in electricity, contents insurance and internet - based in Dannemora, Auckland.

Based on my own research, I'm looking at

AA insurance, 400 excess = 570/year
vodaphone naked: 55/month
Genesis electricity = 2100/year estimate

sound sensible?

Sounds all ok initially, you'll find ways of tweaking it as you go, guessing the agent is suggesting that Broadband company because they may get a referral fee.

Fast Connect are excellent. We used them when we set up home in Christchurch. When they say their service is free, it's because it's free. I just found the leaflet for their services in the local corner shop or in the paperwork from our letting agent or somewhere like that.

Electricity, phone, Sky were all connected for free. The person on the phone knew what they were talking about too.

Used Fast Connect again a few months later when we moved into a rental on the North Island Island of NZ.

I would recommend them to anyone.

That's OK Des. When we moved into our rental in Wanganui, near Wellington, Genesis Energy posted us a brand new tea towel as encouragement to use their company ! I guess it's just part of their marketing strategy for potential new customers.

Fast Connect arrange for your electricity, Sky, telephone etc etc to be connected when you contact them and advise what you require, when and where.

After that you deal directly with the service provider. Which can be disappointing.......

We too used fastconnect, as there was so much going on it was easy and quick to do. We then looked at it again a few months later when things started to settle down :)

You might as well. Broadband is notoriously slow in NZ. Auckland might be different though.

Ultra Fast Broadband is due into NZ or may already be here. Fibre is the next thing. What ever you choose, make sure you can get out of the contract easily if you choose to switch providers.

Our broad band, phone and t.v. are all provided by Sky. I can't remember what our broadband speed is but it does us. But then we don't have kids and don't play games or stream video clips.

Re: Fastconnect, our phone and computer service was provided by Telstra. An altogether different company to deal with ! Sky is a better provider IMO.

Appears fine so far, Skype,YouTube etc no buffering.
Subject to where in AKL can also get Fibre, but we've not bothered.

We have the slower kind of bb but it's still v fast. Genesis seems expensive for elec we just changed
