Battle Hill Farm is on the Paekakariki Hill Road. You turn sharp right (if coming from the south) on SH1 at Paekakariki opposite the station. Coincidentally there are stunning views across Kapiti and the South Island from the hill top. You then turn inland and wind your way towards Battle Hill Farm. You will come across it on the left when the road straightens out. You can also access it by turning from SH1 onto the northern side of the Whitby inlet. Follow the road to the end then turn left (it is signposted Battle Hill) - opposite direction to Pauhatanui.
Unfortunately I don't think there is any way of getting there on public transport, it is in the middle of nowhere!
It has a great DOC campsite (with proper toilets!) with campfire sites over the ford and a stream with a safe pool for the kids to play in. There are also a couple of rope swings dotted around. There are lots of walks from 10 mins through the native bush to much longer ones. If you climb the hill behind the farm buildings you can see where the valley where the Expressway will (or should that be won't) be built! We've camped there before and the kids loved toasting marshmallows and getting scared by the cows!
Never been to the arts/crafts fair though, may make it tomorrow so we may see you if you can organise transport!

brilliant thanks, have found someone to take us. If you see a red haired, and it is red, short lady with a tall bloke, goatee beard and probably Australian cowboy hat, blonde haired daughter and blondish haired younger son and brunette friend then say "hello"

No photo needed, with hair that colour she was easy to spot Bevs
Did you stop at the hilltop lookout on the way back to Paekakariki? My daughter spotted an orca on the route round so we pulled over at the carpark and had a closer look. Did you see it? It's our first whale spotting so pretty exciting!
Spent the rest of the day on the beach with the kids surfing at Waikanae in the sun. Hope the sun stayed out in Pukerua Bay too!

Re: Anyone know how to get to
was meant to stop but had food shopping in the car and Archer had fallen asleep.
Won't tell Katiya about the Orca cos she will sulk for months. We popped out again this evening, more money spending I'm afraid and was going to do it on the way back but as usual car smaller than items we bought (basketball stand and hoop) so all squeezed in and then Katiya wanted the loo so another miss. But will get there maybe tomorrow before we give the car back
