I was just wondering if anyone had any greats tips on keeping cool in this mad heat. Got to 40 today here in Chch and it is going to be 21 tonight. Sleep does not come easily in this heat even with the windows open. Apart from the obvious, putting on the air con in the living room (don't have a heat pump bedroom end of the house) does anyone have any tips to share on staying cool?

We have an electric fan which runs all night. We brought 3 out with us from the UK and they sure are welcome. We have no air con anywhere

Yes has been around -5 for last few days and some places in oxfordshire down to -12 lol

Keep curtains shut on sunny side of the house by day. Have a cold shower before bed, sleep naked with just a sheet or duvet cover over you- get mozzie plug ins and have all the windows open in the house and internal doors propped open to maximise through draught. Avoid exertion in bed before sleep

By day wear sunglasses and a floppy hat, dress in cotton clothing in light colours. Save walking the dog and gardening for early or late in the day. Keep fluids up- heaps of icy water through the day makes so much difference!

Loose clothing, curtains closed, cold showers.

Enjoy it, it will soon be winter and we will all want to know how to keep warm!!

Dont say that!! ...... we are averaging mid to high 20's at the moment up here so its just perfect!! I love this warm weather and long may it continue!

I have seen all the pics of England with their cold temps and do not envy you one bit not even in this heat! Mustn't complain too much though as before we know it temps will be reversing and we will be cold and England sweltering (!!) well maybe not sweltering lol!
