Any Opportunities for Writers in NZ?
I would love to persue my writing career in NZ, working from home, looking out across the landscape... tapping away on my PC...
Can anyone suggest any publishers to contact, or magazines who buy column copy?
Indeed any advice or suggestions would be welcomed.
My main area of interest is novels for children, fantasy and escapism.
Would also like to meet anyone interested in lyrics for MOR songs, Country, Soul etc.
Don't be shy, drop on by!

Hi Trev,
I'd imagine it would be like anywhere to a certain extent, you'll need to build up a database of contacts when you are here by sending off examples of your portfolio.
From what little I know on the subject there are major publishing houses here, but it's also quite normal to "self-publish" and sell on TradeMe and hope for a few column inches in your local rag advertising that. You pay for an advertorial here in your local paper.

That's very interesting, I've never heard of TradeMe so I'll certainly check that out... I guess I'm hoping that there is more chance of being noticed amongst a smaller population - increased odds in my favour and all that. I'm sure that's not how it will work but it's good to explore a new approach. Many thanks!

I only heard about it in an article in our paper about a teenage girl who wrote a book on her experiences of OCD for other teenagers. She had it self published and is selling it on www.trademe.co.nz
Have a look at these sites;
http://www.copypress.co.nz/
http://www.publishme.co.nz/shop/inde..._page=about_us
Many more came up when I google searched.

Thanks for that, especially the link. I will check it out today.
May have found an agent in New York though so that might be a good start.... fingers well and truly crossed! (But expecting nothing!)
Now, where on the net can I buy sone J K Rowling talent?
Spoke with Paul Goddard last night from New Life New Zealand . com - what a nice guy. Such a great connection too, these modern telephony tin cans are wonderful!
Thanks again.

If you are looking to hire and pay money for an immigration consultant to help with a Permanent Residency application, then make sure that person is licensed . You can check that via NZAMI .
Out of interest , which immigration category are you thinking about entering NZ under?

Thanks for the tip, I'll certainly do my homework on that one.
I'll probably have to apply under the residency, business, investor category.
If I proceed with my plans I may fly out to NZ in a couple of months to take a good look-see.
I need to check out if all the kiwis are going to be nice to me!
Thansk again

Then there is a good wee site geared towards the LTBV and business visas.
I checked with BE admin a while back and it is OK to link into the site because, as you know, this is a specialist area.
Go have a look at BENZ1 and have a bit of a chat but don't be a stranger here.
