Hi all, can anyone recommend a good bank. We've gone through websites etc, but has anyone got any experiences?

Hi,
we haven't got any personal experience but a colleague who has invested quite a lot of money in NZ while waiting for immigration recommended the National Bank of NZ, which is part of ANZ. I believe they are linked to Lloyds TSB but could be wrong. Their contact number is 0800 181818,
hope this is of use,

The National Bank was once owned by Lloyds, hence the black horse, but no longer. Now owned by ANZ for a couple of years, and service has gone down hill. ANZ and NatBank were losing customers in droves, due to poor service and high fees, which is why the ANZ are trying to gain the market back again with a low fee account.
KiwiBank is very good, very low fees, excellent service by phone and the net banking is superb. As it is run out of the post offices you can have Sat and often Sun service which is handy too. We have switched to KiwiBank by opening our accounts over the web, and can not fault the service, it has all gone very smoothly. www.kiwibank.co.nz.

National Bank is good too, and offers you a no hassle option of opening up an account while you are still in the UK
ANZ and BNZ are probably 4th and 5th on the list
the other banks are much smaller, with limited services, but do have some good reports about service
quite often it depends on the bank manager you deal with not the bank itself, as to the service you get.
You will be fine with any of the major banks, they all charge fees, and their service is fine.

http://www.interest.co.nz/
it includes comparative data on fees etc charged by the main banks and includes those that do not charge monthly fees as long as a minimum balance is maintained at all times of c5-10k NZD.

My son used Westpac in Dunedin, but only had his Gap year money in it.
He says they were helpful when he lost his wallet with bank card and money .
