Default Re: Any comments on Henderson?

We lived in Henderson for 13 years, but it was about 14 years ago and we left before our kids were school age, so I don't know about schools.

We found it to be fairly self-sufficient with good shopping and not too far to town out of rush hour. If you have to travel in rush hour it will take about 50mins to CBD, but if you leave 20 mins earlier you will get there in no time.

Good things: Lots of lovely orchards (to buy fresh fruit and veg) and wineries (to taste the latest tipple) within a 10 minute drive. Srunning beaches at Piha, Karekare and Muriwai which are all within 30 mins drive. Loads of bushwalks in the Waitakere Ranges, only 20 mins away.

Negative things: It seems to have a redneck label, although when we lived there we found a variety of types of people, so it's a generalisation. There is some occasional violence, but nothing too significant if you aren't the target! The weather is warm and humid in summer. It can get cold in winter and few of the new houses have any form of heating, but you can add that to suit your taste. We managed with a single gas heater, but I guess heat pumps are the thing now. You need a clothes dryer as Auckland gets a lot of rain and it can last for days.
