Hi Tina,
I doubt the socks provided will be the compression socks that prevent DVT more the saggy kind that prevent the OH wanting you to join the mile high club with him
When we went with Singapore they were just fluffly socks (one size so rather massive) meant to keep you warm.
I have bought some sexy compression socks for our flight - just in cases x

And oh yes, will be have my works leaving party on the 9th Jan so that should be good and then works leaving lunch on the 19th as I am in community will have a sensible get together whilst all sober, pmsl, just b4 we leave on the friday, nice of em eh?? Or its to make sure they get rid of me lol, Got a few family and friends get togethers then, no mega party for us (unless its a surprise) my little sis did drop a clanger on boxing day after a few wines, saying we were going for a family meal in a place that i know quite well and it does not do sit down meals, only functions/parties wont hold my breathe though, lol.
Tina x

Re: Airline Freebies
I would always use compression flight socks on ANY flight. I have seen the consequences of not wearing them - I work in an Orthopaedic Hospital. I put mine on when I get through passport control and they stay on until I have reached my destination.
Love Singapore Airlines, food good and drinks free - so have a Singapore Sling to celebrate. Flying out for our holiday in a a couple of weeks - horray!!! I always miss the connecting flight and book into the Transit Hotel in Singapore Airport - lovely to have a long sleep (regardless of what time it is outside), then shower, change of T Shirt and underwear and a nice dinner - then we all refreshed for the second flight.

We fly Singapore as well and use the transit hotel deliberately booking the the later flight so like you we can put our heads down for a few hours. Plus an added bonus there are 3 free trips around Singapore. On our return we have only 5 hours so we use the transit lounge where we have a shower and change back into our winter clothes. This costs about £3 - £4 well worth it. We fly 3 weeks tomorrow for 6 weeks we cant wait to get away from this horrible weather. Have a good holiday.
Nearly forgot when you get to Papamoa don't forget to visit your friendly butcher.
