Only £5.99.....bargain!!
It's wind up too, so I never have to worry about batteries!

This website www.survive-it.co.nz has essential emergency kit you can buy, you can buy a kit for 4 people which includes wind up radio, food rations, blankets, first aid kit etc. for $299 or alternatively you can build your own kit which we are doing after watching Aftershock. Only costing us $11 postage too.

Re: The Aftershock
We watched the second part last night, it was good. Made us realise we need some emergency items in both of our cars. We dont really have a plan of how to meet up if anything happens.... and as hes a member of the Emergency Services we need to talk about what will happen to me and the family .... he will be off helping others. Lots to discuss I think.

That show scared me. Not because I didn't know each and every situation could happen (in fact, possibly worse) but rather because i knew those situations could occur. And so far, my only hope is that I will be at home in my bed when 'the big one' occurs so that i have easy access to
1. wine
2. vodka
3. chocolate
4. makeup (to look purdy when i am pulled from the rubble drunk and on a sugar high).
I hadn't bothered making up a kit, although i knew where each thing was individually in the house. For instance, i have plenty of batteries, plenty of canned food, plenty of loo paper. But I don't particularly want to spend 4 days searching through stuff trying to find it!
So i am making up a wee kit. I have even managed to annoy my manager with all my questions for our work kit!
For instance - like many companies, our phones are dependent on our server being operational and are through specialised datalines. Now, if the power is cut, phone lines could still be operational, or at least operational for short periods of time. My little contribution to the office is to make sure that the first item into our office civil defence kit is a regular telephone with a normal jackpoint. We tested it out. The regular phone line to the office remains operational if the server isn't working. I am not quite sure of the ins and outs but basically we have a regular phone.

Re: The Aftershock
Having attended the Capital and Coast DHB orientation lecture on emergencies, I was aware of the hazards. I went out and bought a large water container and a big plastic box to start my emergency kit. That was 6 months ago and the box has a packet of cat biscuits and a box of matches in it and the water container can't be found since we moved.
However, the house we moved into has many many large containers of water under the stairs - we will be OK as long as the stairs don't collapse....
And the DHB encourages it's staff to bring their families in to work so that they can use their staff more effectively. I'm not sure at this point that I would like the girl subjected to being in close proximity to forensic mental health patients but if the options were stay at home and starve/die of thirst: I may well be taking the girl to work so that I would know she was being cared for. Mental health nurses would be redeployed as far as possible into counselling roles when the big one hits....look out people, I may well be telling you to drink more alcohol and hit the fags in an effort to cope

Re: The Aftershock
I've got 80 bottles of wine, 3 litres of gin, 1 litre each of bacardi & vodka & 8litres of H2O. Do you think this will be enough ?
