After arrival at the airport in NZ...
..which queue do we go to? Do we head for the NZ / Australia section or the 'other arrivals' part?
Does it matter?
We applied for residency visa - so passports will be stamped.
After the flight dont want to go to the wrong end!

Re: After arrival at the airport in NZ...
apologies if the above is a stupid question!
Also - we have booked flights that go straight to Wellington. We land at Auckland and then transfer to Wellington - however there is only an hour and half between arriving and the next flight departing.... is this enough time???

You have visas, but you don't have NZ passports, so you have to go through the queue for other passport holders.

Unless it has changed in the last two years, there should be a NZ citizens/residents queue and an 'others' queue at immigration.
If you have a resident visa in your passport you can go through the NZ citizens/residents line. You are a resident, your type of passport is irrelevant!
Customs which comes afterwards is a bit different [again unless it has changed, this was at AKL]. There it was separate queues for NZ passports and other passports. Annoying for me and him as he has a NZ passport and I don't. He ends up coming through the 'others' queue with me...

Re: After arrival at the airport in NZ...
as for timings, our flight to Auckland was delayed and we also needed the connecting flight down to Wellington. We informed the Stewards on the flight and they arranged for us to get off first and be escorted through Auckland airport, basically jumping any queues and obviously knowing where to go to get the connecting flight. was hectic and even got stopped by sniffer dog as MIL had put apples in our bags, luckily we had discarded before customs but the smell was still there

there was no way we wanted to get caught with the fine, something like $200 - $400 an apple

Yup, my husband was pretty much of the same view. Makes me wonder what planet some people are on when I watch some of these Border Patrol t.v. shows. Except for professional smugglers, but that's a whole other thread.

My little boy was really upset that the sniffer spaniel didn't stop to sniff him when we arrived in Auckland - he wanted to tell it that we have springers too!! I said next time we will rub some food inside our bag so we get a sniff!!

Pretty sure there's a shuttle bus from International to Domestic terminals at AKL but you can walk it in 10-20 mins, which can be quite pleasant after many hours on a plane, assuming it's not peeing down

Just jumping in on this. Usually the queues are for those with New Zealand and Australian Passports, versus "All Passports". For customs/quarantine clearance after you pick up your hold luggage, there is only one queue, but you are funnelled into other lines if you have quarantine or excess allowances to declare. You may find that your luggage is also X-rayed before you exit into the Arrivals area.
If your onward travel is with Air New Zealand, look for the Domestic transfers desk - it use to be tucked around the corner to the left of the exit into the arrivals hall. BUT, watch it for time. They will not check you in if you only have 60 minutes to departure of your domestic flight. You have to take your bags on the free shuttle bus or walk over to the domestic terminal and check in there. Watch out at the domestic terminal as it is self-check in. There are staff around to assist but you have to do it yourself unless you show the staff that you are incapable of doing so. The self check in terminals produce your baggage labels which you put on your luggage yourself, and then you take the luggage to the bag drop conveyor belt.
Hope this helps.
