Advice for a scaffolder hoping to move??
Hi thanks for taking the time to read my thread.
I was orginally looking at moving to Oz but apparantly scaffolders arent in demand. How do i find out if they are in demand in NZ and how hard would it be for me and my family to get a visa to NZ? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi there and welcome to the NZ part of the forum. :)
Can't answer your query I'm afraid but someone will be along I'm sure. It's past their bed-time in NZ now ;) so check back in a few hours. Good luck with your plans. :) |
Re: Advice for a scaffolder hoping to move??
Good scaffolders are sought after in Australia but as it is not considered a trade it doen't feature on the skills shortage list.
NZ it sometimes is on the skills shortage list because every Kiwi scaffolder is in Australia earning $50 to $60 an hour compared to $20 an hour in NZ. |
Re: Advice for a scaffolder hoping to move??
Have a look here: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ for all visa information.
Also have a good read on here about NZ-it is not the same as Australia and does have its pros and cons which may or may not be what you are looking for. This is a link to the skills shortage lists: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...ls.htm?level=3 Scaffolder appears in the Immediate and Canterbury lists which means that an employer can offer you a job without having to undergo a market test. Check the qualifications needed - in the last column on the lists. If offered a job then you can apply for a work visa which would be temporary only. Work visas are job first and then visa application. I am assuming none of you are NZ citizens. For residency then you apply under the Skilled Migrant Category, this is points based. You need over 100 points to submit an EOI [expression of interest] but this will not guarantee success. 140pts or over is an automatic draw. If you have less than 140 then you will [very probably] need a job offer in place to be selected. |
Re: Advice for a scaffolder hoping to move??
Take a look at www.scaffoldersforum.com. There is a company looking for scaffolders to work a minimum 2 years in Christchurch. $25 a hour so about 14 quid
