I see your location is raumati , is that where you are going to be moving to?

Ikea stuff if you have it already would be a good thing to bring, if you don't need it you can always sell it on trademe. as for other stuff I feel that if you are not over on a temp visa you may as well look for alternatives here, saying that I stocked up on hair dye and then got my mil to bring some more over when they came as they just don't do my colour here, near but not quite. Good furniture is expensive but if you are thinking of buying please be aware that any goods less than 12mths old may get charged custom duty costs.

check out the search function above for threads on what to bring

Yes.

Bring whatever you can afford to bring.
Shipping costs are not that high when you are looking at replacing an entire household of furniture. You won't be getting Ikea here.

As for toiletries and the like. Bring what you like . After that , find new stuff that suits you.

Don't bring any electrical stuff, all ours gave up in the first year. Maybe the heat it was exposed to in the shipping container in the crossing effected it. Tv's and stuff are cheap to buy here but I would bring everything else. It just lessons the trauma of settling for a start, you have familiar things around you to make you all feel secure and at home

Sometimes you see Ikea for sale new on Trade Me. As said earlier, I think it's imported from Australia.
