advice please
Just a couple of questions here hope you can help with.
My parents are coming from the UK in January and want to bring sweets for kids- I know they have strict rules here and dont want any hassle or fines for them at the airport. Is it ok to pack sweets (chocolate mainly, but also a kit to make gingerbread-only dry ingredients) in the suitcase? I know lots of people who have but not sure if it is legal. Also is it best for them to get their English curreny changed here in NZ? They are thinking of bringing sterling travellers cheques and seem to think they will get a better exchnge rate here- not sure how that works!
Anyway hope you can help and thanks in avance!

Re: advice please
Sweets should be fine as long as they are in the original sealed packages. To be on the safe side always declare.
As far as changing money the pound trades in a tight range and they won't get a bad rate here. Every bank will change currency. Avoid changing too much at the airport as there seems to be a higher commission (I think...)

Re: advice please
thank you- does that apply to chocolate as well as sweets? Everything will be in original packaging and nothing obscure- just cadburys and Thorntons (yum cant wait!)
Thanks again

Another thing that would go down brilliantly here in ChCh is a container load of Haribo sweets. How I long for Starmix and Tanfastics! The jelly sweets (lollies they call them) here are just an all round bad bunch when compared.
On my suggestion the Little Britain store in Riccarton now stocks them, but at $3 for 100g of cola bottles, they are coining it!
A lovely treat, mind - so stick some of them in the suitcase too

Nah, it's on Riccarton Road and is a small place (standard corner shop size) between Wespac and the Post Shop. Has a Union Jack themed frontage. Loads of great stuff though, and unlike the grocer on Columbo St (great though that place is) it's not all out of date. Still pricey, but some things are worth paying for.
Nice'n'spicy nic nacs anyone?

Ditto.
For instance, Kiwi's very favourite Pascall Pineapple Lumps :curse:
Luckily I am Not a Fan of Sweets or anything Sugary, therefore it's easier to survive here
