Advice on a move to NZ
hi there,
I'm just looking for some info towards future relocation to New Zealand, been looking through forums and websites but wondered if anyone has first hand experience?
Alot of my family are looking to move to NZ, I'm planning on moving out at the same time as my aunt and two cousins (and dog), as we jointly own our current house and are looking at doing something similar in NZ to get set up. I'm 27 and a welder and been contracting on short term contracts since 17 (between a year and half to month long), my aunt is 42 and a medical receptionist for five years with two children, 17 and at college and 13.
Problem is, how is it best to move out? obviously if one of us are refused entry it would cause problems with the joint house funding the move, can we put it as joint application even though we're not a married couple? And if so, do you apply as a single (me or aunt) with family or as a joint family application? And if single applications who would have a better chance of being accepted and bringing the other?
Would love any help and info, many thanks

But on the subject of football...... anybody know what the coverage for the english football leagues is like in NZ? Do they have skysports? And what teams are in NZ? I know of Auckland City, I may need an adopted team for when I move out!
Thanks for the info

Check through some of the titles of the forums-there's loads of info available-and the members are superb.
On that front page-where you go to discuss USA,NZ, Australia etc, there's a site for sports fanatics like us further down.

There's no obligation to buy anything, you can take away information, and contact numbers home-discuss,and take it from there.
You're in a slightly unique position with your family make-up,so you're going to have to see what your options are.
It doesn't cost owt to find out. That wasn't meant to rhyme-sorry!

A partner of a principal applicant is someone who is legally married to the applicant or who is living in a partnership
that is like a marriage.
The partnership can be between people of the opposite or same sex. The partnership must be genuine and stable.
We recognise partnerships where both partners:
• are aged 18 years or over (or have parental/guardian or other consent if aged 16 or 17 years)
• met each other before any residence application was submitted
• aren’t close relatives.
A partner will only be granted residence if both people in the partnership have been living together for at least 12
months.

Thanks for all info, had a look at the online EOI and the quick check tick box version, and for lining up a job prior to leaving my points leapt up 95 points?!
Is that standard, and if so, how do you go about lining up a job before moving? Is it a case of take a long holiday and apply out there or can you apply online? Do you apply for visa after you get the job and if so how long do they realistically hold a position for you to find out if you get the visa?

If I was you I'd go along to one of the immigration fairs and speak to someone at NZIS.

Once here you're entitled to do temporary work, but if you got an offer of a permanent position, I think you could then apply for PR. Your aunt, being over 30, will have to go the more usual route of PR/WTR.

Re: Advice on a move to NZ
Thanks all for info, will deffo check out the expo. Had a go on the quick point checker and without a job I hit around 120 as a skilled migrant, thats a pretty good total to apply on, right?
Bob can get 140 with a job offer, and I read somewhere but cant find it now about a nurse applying by email (was it danny?), as an A&E receptionist could the same sort of thing work for her?
Also I've been looking at possible moving targets, and the Bay Of Plenty looks absulutely amazing, prices in the districts all seem to be uniform, untill I started looking at Kawerau, which seems to be half the price of other areas with loads of land and big houses.............. why? Seems close to Rotoura, nearby shops, schools, colleges etc many are lake side, it just seems a bit of a bargain.... anybody from there ot thereabouts?
