Hi,
Due to the cat and house sale, I won't be arriving in Christchurch til October time. The other half, however, will be arriving probably mid June as he has a job set up and his visa application is being processed.
He needs to find temporary accommodation for himself but does not want long lease or shared facilities as it will only be for 3 months or so....any advise would be great, thanks

Have a look on www.trademe.co.nz and also google for short term earthquake repair properties. You may find this a little harder if your other half doesn't want to share kitchen etc but it should give you a good start looking at options.

Rents in furnished accommodation down here are ridiculous as the insurance companies pay for alternative housing while having earthquake repairs done. I can definitely recommend Trademe as a starting point. My company set me up with a place managed by Christchurch Accommodation. It is by no means cheap but they do include all bills and internet as well.

I saw a family parked up in a camper van on a street in Woolston yesterday. Perhaps he could hire a camper van and just drive round in it

Hi Lin,

Try www.airbnb.com. You can rent whole houses/apartments without having to share. The rental situation in Chch is dire at the moment. It may be that your other half stays in a couple of different places if you can't find one place on airbnb for the whole three months. Just make sure you choose one with good reviews to avoid any problems
