Default is 90 inches average?!

just wondering... have a load of curtains in good nick that are a 90" drop... will happily shorten them if needed once we get to NZ, but just wondered if the average/standard/common drop in NZ is longer?!?

(again, funny the things you ponder whilst waiting for NZIS)

Oh, you're going to get some good replies!!!!!

Oh, d'you know I've made my own curtains and I can't remember what the drop is - bring yours with you anyway because if they're too short for one set of windows (usually the living areas) you can always shorten them for another room - windows are not uniform here - we've got all sorts of shapes and sizes in our house. Actually, you may find that the while they're long enough they may not be wide enough.

drop is usually getting on for 8' (so about 90 inch) as ceiling height is about the same as UK but the widths are often greater as lots of houses (at least those of a certain age) have plenty of glass.......and not much reveal.....it can be like living in a greenhouse - so good thermal liners will help keep out the solar gain in the summer and hold the heat back in during winter.

You do like you curtains a whiter shade of mildew though??

Thank God for that! I was beginning to think I had a particularly mucky mind or something

Common drops are 160cm, 205cm and 220cm.

Essentially for a bog standard 1960s home, a 160cm drop is what is commonly used in bedrooms and dining rooms due to the size of the windows.

205 is floor length. 220cm is floor length on a house with a higher stud (eg slightly older houses - 1900-1940s particularly). Or in front of french doors.

They also come, often in single width or double width.

Front windows on a bog standard 1960s house will almost certainly be a double width if not a LOT bigger.

Bedroom windows are often double width as well.

Is the blue passport what you receive for doing over 10,000 posts? And here I was thinking thought Lardy was verbose...

Sounds too hard - I'll stick to Flybuys.

(explanation for visitors: Flybuys is a NZ based loyalty card where if you spend lots you might have enough points to reward yourself with a small electrical appliance - if your wife doesn't get there first )
