We got the news today that corrections are closing units at 3 prisons ( mine included)
affecting around 260 jobs (mine included)
Kinda shitty sucky news !!

two units at my place going, crims moving to the new prison at Wiri with much nicer
and more comfortable facilities for them.

There'll be a major reshuffle at work, some early retirements, vol redundancies,re settlement to other prisons.
Hopefully that lot'll save a few jobs, we can only wait n see

That is sucky news Col, such a lot of jobs at stake - it seems rather an ambitious proposal to educate / rehabilitate people out of prisons. I expect like most Government plans and restructures of that type that it will take them years to implement but will look good on their annual plan and the budget they will have just recently have submitted to the Ministry.

You only have to look at the health service as an example where Government failed massively to achieve the savings target of $700m they set themselves . The organization that was set up and tasked with that role of finding those savings spent something like $87m over the past five years, setting themselves up a new office with an entourage of management, HR and consultants on board; gave notice to hundreds of people around the country that their jobs were going and now they themselves been disestablished after failing to implement any of those savings plans.

What's going from Waikeria? West? Remand? It wasn't that long ago that they closed Central.

Just after Xmas they spent over 100k on central just in case
they had to open it again due to the muster blow out.
Both west and remand are going.
We currently have contractors in west converting back to double
bunks that are now never going to get used.
There are also closures at Rimutaka and Tongariro/Rangipo

If your not at one of the 3 named prisons you'll be ok.
Think my only option is to apply for spring hill first and if i dont get in there
cross my fingers that I get retained at whats left of Waikeria
