The bathroom with added mould has sold it to me. Feel I'm missing something though, how DO you get into the kitchen ?? Do you have to go to the back of the house ? I can't see anyway into the dining room. Maybe you go into the bathroom and then crawl through the bathroom Window.

From what I can see the current tenant (owner?) is an art connoisseur. Maybe that 15th c. portrait of a lady by a Flemish master (4th photo) is an original? Might explain the upmarket price. Does anyone know if Grey Lynn is an artist's colony? Is it the new Soho?

I think they call them 'alternative lifstylers'.
Hometopia describes the character of the area as "arty", and one of being a "traditional home to free-thinkers and anti-establishment types".

There is an establishment of sorts to rail against in New Zealand?
You don't need to be wealthy to afford an Auckland house. Strangely although we are very strict about LVRs we are very accommodating with interest only terms, pushing mortgages out on ever extended durations and using a high proportion of income to cover repayments.
So if you are looking at owning on an ∞ term, rates stay low, wages keep increasing and property prices go up forever you too could afford a modest Auckland dwelling. Yay!

There was a story in the Herald last week about some app designed to tell you about cost of living in Auck, Well and CHCH when you factor in income and commutes from different areas. Based on rent for some reason rather than mortgage payments.

Dont know how useful it is. Found it hard to work in Internet Explorer. Better with Chrome.

Do ups don't come much better than this four bedroom little beaut: Remember it's all about the potential
Agents say home-staging wasted on Grey Lynn house because its value will be obvious despite the mess = CV from 2011 was $890k

"Meanwhile, an Auckland do-up featured in the Herald that was marketed using listing photos showing empty bottles in the living room, boxes and furniture blocking the hallways was passed in at auction last week at $1.225 million.
The real estate agent for 35 Grosvenor Rd in Grey Lynn said serious vendors would look past the mess and see the home's value."

This artist's den was passed in at auction. Maybe people can't look past the mess. I guess they don't have an artist's vision:

Latest update for all you Brits thinking of relocating to NZ (more Auckland):
No housing crisis – Dr Nick Smith - TV News Video | TVNZ
Part 1 of 2. The average mortgage in Auckland now takes 50 years to pay off. Why on earth put yourself through that?
You can clearly see that the current government are clueless and out of touch with your average kiwi family and skilled migrants hoping to settle and make it work in NZ.
