Default 2 quick questions. Thanks.

Hi,

We have just submitted our EOI and i have a couple of questions (well loads actually but i wont bore you with them all!),

1./ If the EOI is succesful we will then have to have the medicals. We have 2 young kids ,18mths and 3yrs, and we have not had them immunised with the MMR or any jabs yet. Does anyone know if that is going to be a problem, will we have to get them done before the medicals?

2./ Just trying to sort out how much the process is going to cost us. We have paid the EOI fee which i think was $300. What are the costs of the next bit if that is successful, and are they per person or just one cost for the application.

Cheers for any info,

Neil.

Don't know about the medicals for the babies, our kids are much older, but the fees if you get an ITA are - $800 for lodging the ITA, then $300 per person (or $1200 per family) for the Migrant Levy if the ITA is approved. But remember to add in costs for police checks. Our medicals, done in NZ, cost us around $1200 all in - that includes everything, and one of our kids had to have the full blood tests.

Then add in a few hundred $ for whatever relaxation you need whilst you're waiting, whether that is alcohol, food, or bungee jumping, and another few hundered $ for the big party you'll have when you get those blue stamps!

Hi Neil
when we had our medicals done (Mar 05) our children were 3 and 9mths. Their medicals were pretty straight forward - general check over, height and weight check, discussion re: health and a review of their immunisation schedule. No blood tests or x rays for them, however I do know the medicals changed after ours and became more intensive.
They were both up to date with their imms so not sure if it would have been a problem if they hadn't had them, however once we got here and checked with the GP, they had to have more to bring them in line with NZ schedule - including Hepatitis B and Meningitis B. To enrol in daycare you have to have a certificate confirming that immunisations are up to date, but there are a lot of people over here who don't immunise so I'm not sure that you are unable to take up daycare if they are not immunised - it does mean though that some of the illnesses that are not really present in the UK (like measles) are much more prevalant here, therefore increased risk of exposure to. Plus we were advised to consider carefully when we emigrated as all the bugs (even the common cold) are slightly different and therefore we were more likely to catch them!
Good luck
Vicki
