Default 11th of the 11th - serious thread

Just a space for us to think of those who sacrificed so we can have our freedoms, may they rest in peace and never be forgotten

We tend to forget about Remembrance Day in NZ. I have been to every Anzac day service since arriving here as that is the day of remembrance here.

I hope that the World never has to endure anything even close to WW1 or WWII ever again. Human life is worth more than that.

If only the fallen could be respected in their efforts in peace....

Instead we have to put up with idiots...

Thank you Lardyl

A very nice idea, and it has certainly made me stop and remember.

Why are they selling poppies in town today Mummy ??
The poppies, are flowers of love for the men who marched away
But why have they chosen a poppy, mummy? Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died in the fields where the poppies grow
But why are the poppies so red, mummy? Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood my child, the blood our soldiers shed.
The heart of the poppy is black, mummy, why does it have to be black?
Black my child, is the symbol of grief for the men who never came back
But why mummy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child for the world is forgetting Again

That is very moving. I read it to my daughter and it really choked me up. My grandson's Dad is a soldier and will be serving in Afghanistan in January.

Yes indeed.

Lest We Forget.

I'll be wearing my poppy today. It's one with the leaf. Not an anzac poppy . I have one of those for that day of remembrance.

My cousin's husband is in Afghanistan, he won't be home for Christmas and his children spend another Christmas without him.

Bless them all who have fallen, and bless the ones who are out there now

.....sorry Bevs, but does it really matter?
As an aside, I'm also of the opinion that the 11 am thing is wrong. Midnight here is the hour.
