Default 10 Rules for Integrating well in NZ

HEALTH WARNING: Only read if you can laugh - although there is an element of truth in it all.

1. Be sport mad.
2. Never make a negative comment on any aspect of NZ (as a foreigner you have no right, and it is not NZ culture to winge).
3. If NZers ask you how you find NZ, say it is the greatest place on earth.
4. Don't talk about the outside world unless it is to say how luck NZ is.
5. If you ever forget rule 4, and happen to mention in passing how you once enjoyed sitting in a cafe in Paris or going to the Theater in London (not even making a comparison to NZ), expect the "we have that too" response maybe postfixed by the stock phrase "Its the best in the Southern Hemisphere" or maybe even "Its better". JUST SMILE AND AGREE.
6. Watch sport on TV as much as you can - you won't have much choice anyway.
7. Try to speak with the same grammar/accent as the locals - whatever you say will carry more weight.
8. Believe the responses you say for rules 3 & 4.
9. Play more sport (any sport/all sports).
10. Tell Kiwis how xyz in NZ is the best in the world, helps perpetuate the response you get in rule 5.

Enjoy life in the greatest place on earth.
