Amazulu

We are flying into Auckland and have 1 day there before flying on to Christchurch. What are some good things to do for 2 adults and a 7yo for 1 day?

You could even have excellent fish and chips in Takapuna (shop opposite North Shore Times Office) and then a drive up the bays from there as this would give you a feel for Auckland and the North Shore.

Ditto Kelly Tarltons and a stroll to Mission bay for an ice cream at Movenpick then Sky Tower.
Or....the Zoo

Butterfly creek is handy to the airport and has mini golf next door

A walk up Mt Eden gives a great view of the city too - likewise One Tree Hill in Cornwall Park - there is a children's playgound near the bottom of the hill too - ferry across to Devonport and up Mt Victoria is also good for view of harbour - I think these outdoor view points are a great alternative to Skytower which is also pricey if you are on a budget

Good idea...tahaki reserve at base of Mt eden is a nice playground too with plenty of places to fossick
