Re: $
It will. We completed on Mum's house yesterday. The money arrived interbank today.
There will now be an enormous hike in the FX rate to piss me off.

Think of when you move to Ireland though Genesis, house prices have fallen 60% and your money is making ground on the euro. A decent house will be pocket change by 2014ish .

And that 60% fall.......knowing my fiscal luck that will be off my house after fitting the new $50k monopitch roof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: $
With the ten year trend being a steady evening of the two currencies, we just decided to say stuff it, get it here, then we know what we're playing with for the next house.

I think Ireland is off the menu for now. No jobs, kids like NZ, me? I'd like to think I still wanna go but I think I am a bit too old for all this moving lark. If Kate got offered a great job and the kids were WELL up for it I would probably jump at the chance but dare I say as a family after 7 years we are quite settled here? Got new neighbours soon to arrive. Will see if we want to stay after a few weeks with them!

Re: $
But with a pension lump sum sitting in some dusty, unloved, interest free NZ foreign exchange acct it looks like we will cash in VERY soon.

That's my point G, I just don't know, so i took the bull by the horns and did now what now gives.
People make or lose many thousands (as well we know), by speculating with markets. Me, I'm happy with my lot, and if it's one to one or three to one, will have long ago forgotten about FX rates.
My army pension will pay what it pays when I cash it in, but that's many moons away.

Interesting UK budget.
Amount reduced on £126bn deficit from previous year (not compounded):
2012 - 2013...£6bn
2013 - 2014...£22bn
2014 - 2015...£38.5bn*
2015 - 2016...£38.5bn*
Really? Only £6bn cut from overspending so far and they can better than triple that rate next year? That's a pretty rubbish budget and they have failed to understand austerity IMO. I think that sterling is going to lose it's sterling reputation shortly and the exchange rate will favour those earning here even more.
*Implied.
