Whitkneekid is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Hello!

Im 25, and hoping to move over to the Netherlands at the end of this year or start of next. Im already learning the language and have a friend over there for guidance, but id like advice on finding a job. Ive been a carer in UK for 7 years, and have 3 years of retail experience prior to that. I don't mind what job really, its quality of life im after. Any pointers?

Many thanks

Welcome: I'd point you towards the Wiki as there's a list of employment agencies there. You're unlikely to get a response until you are either able to speak Dutch with them (they are known to simply put the phone down on non-Dutch speakers), or until you're here on the ground and they can no longer put the phone down.

With that challenge in mind, it's worth bearing in mind that this is not a cheap country to live in, and so finding a job that pays you enough to do more than simply survive will be the key to having any kind of 'quality of life'.

I'd advise you to keep on with the language learning, and use as many free resources as you can find to boost your vocabulary and comprehension skills. Learn Dutch, Watch Video with Subtitles | 2BDutch.nl

If you're looking for a job as a "carer", in general, you'll need a "Ziekenverzorger" qualification. Not sure how this will work for you; it used to be the equivalent of the old UK SEN nursing diploma (which no longer exists since the UK decided to save money by changing them to unqualified Health Care Assistants); the old UK SEN diploma was accepted by the Dutch.

This link may help you in seeing if your current UK qualifications will be recognised in Holland.

Best of luck.

Another thing: at 25 you'd still be able to get a student loan from the Dutch government if you study at bachelor level (HBO) or above. There are several courses out there taught in English (with the option to study a second language), but you'd need to do your research very quickly as the Hogeschools (Polytechnic/University of applied science) are dealing with all the applications right about now, and of course you'd need to meet the criteria with your GCSEs and/or A levels.

But this has the potential to change in the event of an EU exit, and nobody can predict what will happen for sure after that (although for sure the lower tuition rate for EU members is likely to go), so if it's an option, look into it as soon as you can - google studyinholland for information.
