Wise USD Account Issue

Just noticed this morning that Wise are (hopefully, temporarily) restricting new USD accounts to those with a US address. If you already have a USD account it should still work. From what I've read there was an issue with their banking partner leaking user data. They say they are working towards getting this sorted so that they can offer USD accounts again but have no timeframe.

As my luck would have it, I was going to open a USD account this morning. I've joined the waitlist.

Not sure if it's true but I read that Revolut have a similar ongoing issue.

Anyone use another service?

Re: Wise USD Account Issue

There was some issue with the US pausing the issue of Wise cards but this is supposed to be temporary.

Currently, you should be able to sign up for a Revolut account:

Cards are a separate issue. The problem at the moment is that if you are a non-US resident you can't get "local" account details for a USD account. You can add USD as a currency but you won't get account details i.e you won't get an account number and routing number. So, for example, if you wanted your IRS tax refund paid into your USD account - you can't. They say they are working hard to bring this facility back for non-residents. All you can do at the moment is join the waitlist. I've been on the waitlist a few weeks and haven't heard anything.

Same with Revolut, pretty much. You can open a USD account but won't get local details. In fact I opened an account having been told by their social media team that I would get local details but they lied. When I look at my USD balance it says "for cross border payments only". So, you won't get your tax refund paid to Revolut either. On the other hand, if you opened your Revolut account before 15th Feb 2024, you WILL have local USD details. But no more.
