The rubbish about people expecting the UK with sun is trotted out again and again by those who are insecure about the move and need to explain away all the people going back. This enables them to maintain the comforting illusion that the very real problems some people have here don't actually exist.

Back on topic, I would never say never about moving back to the UK, but then again, I havent left it.

When you set out on any journey into the unknown, you have certain ideas about what it might be like, but you can only ever know if it will suit you by experiencing it. You can't possibly know how you are going adapt to a new life unless you try it. And some people can adapt better than others. Thats what life is about - experiencing things. Some things you like, others you don't. My dad doesn't like mushrooms - but he's never tried them

When they balance it out, they felt happier in the UK, so go back home because that's where they want to be. Sometimes it takes leaving a place to realise just how much you like it, because obviously then, you have something to compare it to.

Excellent post Louise. I like it when someone explains why a place isn't for them rather than just spouting "its crap" and that goes for the UK too.

People don't move to OZ, US or NZ and think it will be the same, they're not idiots. They know things will be different, but find after living in their new country that the UK is more ingrained in them than they realised and feel they would be happier back home. That's not the same as thinking it's going to be Britain with better weather.

There is that old phrase "you don;t know what yuo've got till it's gone" This not only applies to people, but also cluture, history, amazing architecture, people who understand your accent...I could go on.
