Who's back at work today then?

Not all companies are off for MLK day, at least here in NYC.
Found this in searching federal holidays in the US:
Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the following public holidays for Federal employees. Please note that most Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. For these employees, when a holiday falls on a nonworkday -- Saturday or Sunday -- the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday).

i'm not going back to work today due to the fact i quit yesterday. Maybe not the smartest move in the world but when work affects ones health so dramatically something has to give, workplace bullying isnt pretty no matter how you dress it up.

Like today Monday 03 January 2011 tomorrow Tuesday 04 January is also a public holiday here in Scotland but not in England and Wales. We Scots need an extra day off to get over Hogmanay.
The layout of the Bank Holiday/Public Holiday set up here in the UK is crazy.
The next UK public holiday is not until Good Friday 22 April followed by the Easter Monday Bank Holiday on 25 April then later that same week there is yet another Bank Holiday - Friday 29 April due to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey taking place on that day, then just three days later - on Monday 02 May - comes the May Day Bank Holiday. That's three public holidays in the space of just one week!
Four weeks later on Monday 30 May we have the Spring Bank Holiday!
Then it's a long haul to the Scottish late Summer Bank Holiday on Monday 01 August (not in England and Wales) then four weeks later England and Wales (but not Scotland) have their Late Summer Bank Holiday on Monday 29 August.
Then it's a very long slog at work until the Christmas Holidays, with nothing between those and the August holiday, but with Christmas Day 2011 falling on a Sunday there will be UK public holidays on Monday 26 December (Boxing Day) and also Tuesday 27 December.
The cluster of UK public holidays all within the space of about four weeks every April/May is just ridiculous, but this is a ridiculous country in many ways anyway.
They actually had an earthquake in Leeds today 3.7 on Richter - I went to uni in Leeds and we had loads of earthquakes there all the time.

Districts usually choose what days they have off, when they start school, end school, etc. They all just have to conform to the federally mandated amount of days, hours, minutes, etc of school time.

Good for you Jan. Have a close friend did the same thing. Decided her heart attack was caused by the atmosphere in the office and while she was not due to retire and health wise could have returned, decided that her mental health was too important.

Re: Who's back at work today then?
His vacation time resets on January 1st, he gets 25 days and sick days are flexible, plus the usual holidays everyone else has... Anyway its not what he had in the UK (almost 7 weeks) but we both find the time is pretty darn good....

Which gets really weird in Aroostock county, Maine, where the school schedule is still based on the planting and picking times of potatoes

Re: Who's back at work today then?
I'm back today, but I had to use up some time.."it was use it or lose it"before the begining of this year.
Paid holidays were 23 and 24 and 31 December but I have been off since the 23rd, which has been nice
Next day off is MLK on Jan 17th, then Pres. Day Feb 22nd, Texas Ind. Day March 2nd, San Jacinto Day April 21st, Good Friday April 22nd, Memorial Day May 30th, Ind. Day July 4th, Labor Day September 5th, Veterans Day November 11th, Thanksgiving Nov 24&25 and then Christmas Dec 23 and 26!
Sometimes it's good to work for local Government
